Tip of the Week

During sleep, obstructive sleep apnea patients frequently stop breathing due to excess tissue that blocks the upper airway, leading to excessive daytime sleepiness, a higher risk of automobile accidents, and significantly increased rates of cardiovascular disease. The Somnoplasty procedure for obstructive sleep apnea, which is performed under local anesthesia, treats sleep apnea by shrinking soft tissue in the upper airway, including the base of tongue, the source of obstruction most difficult to treat.
